IRA CDs – Safe and Predictable Retirement Growth

An IRA CD is a great way to protect your retirement savings while also benefiting from tax-advantaged growth. It is ideal for someone who wants to protect their nest egg while receiving predictable tax-advantaged growth.

Lock in a guaranteed return on your retirement savings without the volatility of the stock market. Choose between Traditional and Roth IRA CDs. Both offer the same guaranteed fixed rate that will not change during the term of your CD.

Other benefits of IRA CDs include:

  • Contribute up to $7,000 in 2025 ($8,000 if age 50 or older)
  • Federally insured by NCUA up to $250,000
  • Traditional IRA CD
    • Interest is tax-deferred until you withdraw it in retirement
    • Contributions may be tax deductible
  • ROTH IRA CD
    • Qualified Account Withdrawals are tax-free when withdrawn in retirement

{beginAccordion}

How is an IRA CD different than a regular CD?

Both IRA CDs and regular CDs feature a guaranteed fixed interest rate, the main difference is how they are treated for tax purposes. Interest earned from a regular CD is taxable in the year that it is earned. Interest earned by an IRA CD is subject to the same tax treatment as a Traditional or Roth IRA.

Can I contribute to both a Traditional IRA CD and a Roth IRA CD?

Yes, you may contribute to both, but you may only contribute a combined total of $7,000 ($8,000) per year to IRAs.

Are there any fees to set up a NW Plus CU IRA CD?

No.

Can I add money to my IRA CD?

Yes, you may make additional deposits to a NW Plus CU IRA CD at any time during the term of the CD. However, Online Banking and Audio Banking deposits are not permitted.

Can I rollover my existing Traditional or Roth IRA account into a NW Plus CU IRA CD?

Yes.

Will my IRA CD contributions be tax deductible?

A Roth contribution is post-tax so there is no tax deduction now, but grows tax-free so long as you make qualified withdrawals.
